While reading in the book Bullets, Badges & Bridles, by John K. Burchill, I read today about Ned Huddleston, AKA Isom Dart. He was born a slave in 1849 in Arkansas, but escaped that horrific life at the age of 16, running off to Texas. Although now free, his prospects were limited. He was described by many of the day as being the best they ever saw at working with horses. This talented man could only find limited work though due to the color of his skin, mostly as a rodeo clown. He fell in with a horse and cattle thief ring, but later went straight, falling in love for an American Indian woman and being an excellent father to her daughter. Her abusive husband, eventually found her, robbed Huddleston and took off with the wife and daughter. She killed her husband. Huddleston did track her down only to find that she had a new lover. He changed his name to Isom Dart and went back to stealing. Caught, he was being taken to trial, when the wagon he was in went over a raven. He was not hurt, but the lawman was. Instead of fleeing, he nursed the man to health and too them both into town. He was let off due to his kindness and again went straight. Later he was shot down because he was suspected of being a thief again. Stories like his are worth telling, and it's sad that few would know about this amazing individual.
Well, today was certainly a crazy weather day was it now?! Started with rain, then there was sleet, then snow, then an odd mix of rain and snow, rain came back and now the wind is blowing fierce. I did break my waiting to contact you rule and sent you a little funny text about how it was good you didn't pick today to go to the zoo. You did reply back, taking it in stride as a joke, so I was happy to see that.
I also received your email with suggestions about the surgeon your step-father and you used for surgeries years ago. I truly appreciate the information, so thank you for that.
I was thrilled by the UK Wildcats upsetting Michigan! Go Big Blue!
I forget yesterday about counting Kia's because I was so happy to see you and spend time with you, but I did count 70 all day and there were two references that popped up to the year you were born. Today, I counted 20 Kia's.
I worked on my will tonight. I want to get that done before my surgery. While the surgery will probably go just fine, one never knows and I can't take a chance. I will have to get you a copy because I am still going to name you as my personal representative. I trust you completely to follow my wishes and to do it well.
It's true though that today was not as good as yesterday, and most of my todays of late were not as good as the yesterdays we used to share. I am not depressed or anything, but yesterday was truly a happy time for me, and I hope that there will be more opportunities to share those happy moments with you in the future. I want you to be in my future that is the only wish I have ever wanted to come true for myself. I hope that together we can build our relationship into one we both deserve. I am still asking because I still believe in us: Will you marry me?
Wishing for your love,
MNP
