What a busy weekend. I went to Harper's Ferry and did a hike for African American history. It was pretty interesting even though I have been to Harper's Ferry many times (was in fact hiking there again this morning). I learned on the hike that Frederick Douglass, one of those rare individuals that I admire, gave a speech there in 1881 for Strorer College. Would have loved to be able to be there to hear him speak.
Wow, did you watch the Belmont Stakes?! How about that sore loser Steve Coburn, 1/2 of California Chrome's ownership? He totally ignored history when making his speech. All Triple Crown hopefuls have had to face new shooters that skipped one or both races. Those 12 who accomplished the feat took on all comers and any adversity. War Admiral, for example, tore off a chunk of his hoof and returned with blood all over his belly. He still did it. It's crazy to try to call for some change just so we can have another Triple Crown winner. The problem keeping us from having one - the breeding! We don't breed for stamina anymore, so our horses can't hold up to it. We need to address that and then we will deserve to see another.
Such excitement for the weekend. I counted 18 Kia's on Friday, 47 on Saturday and 55 today.
I don't know if we are really friends. Sometimes it really doesn't feel like it, but I am going to keep working and hoping for a good solid friendship and the chance that it will blossom into something more. We did have some good conversations yesterday via text. I miss the days when we would text well into the night and the times we would spend in one another's company. I have come to learn that I tried to change you too much, focused too much on the negative. I have learned and have changed on that score. One thing that has never changed, is that you are still the one for me, the only one, the one I want to ask - will you marry me?
Always,
MNP
